Chinantla Restaurant

I found this place on Google maps just searching for a quick bite to eat on our way to prospect park. It looked like a bodega when you walked in, but the restaurant is actually in the back. We were seated and given menus right away by a waitress, even though the restaurant was buzzing with movement because of the bustle of the lunch rush. The waitress was patient as I practiced my Spanish while ordering. We got the carne asada sopes (which I'd never had before), tacos (3 for about $10) and a cheeseburger with fries. 3 bottles of cokes washed it all down. They served beers, jarritos and horchata too though. Everything was delicious! Even/especially the fries. Our food took a while to come out, but again the lunchtime rush was in full effect when we walked in the door. Zero complaints with this spot, even the salsa was on point!

Chinantla is an absolute MUST if you live in the area. Get their Chinantla Torta!!! I would have taken a picture of the beautiful gooey cheese and layers upon layers of meat and avocado if it weren't for the fact that I attacked it as soon as I opened the wrapper! You will be happily surprised by the beastly heft of this torta! Chinantla excels as a bodega and restaurant, all in one. Very delicious traditional Mexican food, with a good mix of TexMex as well.
