Bistro Sousou

Wonderful dining experience at Bistro Sousou. Unfortunately since the pandemic we have experienced a lot of bad service in Melbourne due to lack of experienced staff and staff numbers in general. At BS this changed, finally. The pacing was perfect, offering drinks menu and taking a drinks order before even seeing a food menu set the tone and pace for a perfect evening. The atmosphere, service and food were all just right. Not too pretentious and all delicious. We will definitely be back and will be sure to recommend. Thanks for an excellent date night.

Fantastic services and great food! I had one of the best dining experience here, staff here are super caring and friendly. I love their playlist, chill and relaxed. Cuisines are outstanding! Special main dish of the day is barramundi risotto, fish fillet is perfectly grilled, crispy skin brings extra texture to the pallet. Steak is excellent. A great variety of cocktails meets my expectations. I would highly recommend crème brûlée for dessert.

Oysters: Fresh, large and Sauce Mignonette provided a good pop of flavour French Onion Soup: Robust and hearty Soufflé Au Fromage: Fantastic savoury cheese souffle. A must-order Chateaubriand: Pièce de résistance. The roasted wagyu rostbiff had a nicely browned cap and a tender centre. The duck fat potatoes were crispy and nicely seasoned. The seasonal vegetables (brussel sprouts, carrots, broccolini, radish and capers) nicely complemented the beef. A must-order if you have at least 2 guests sharing Apple Tarte Tatin: Crisp pastry and nice caramelised apples Desserts are made to order and may take a while, so I'd recommend either ordering at the start (if you already plan to order them) or make a decision when you're having your mains.

I thought the experience was great, aside from one issue described below. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and great food. Unfortunately service wasn’t good - we continually sat in front of dirty dishes all night (including dishes left there after they took my drinks order, and for a long time as I watched another waitress polish wine glasses behind the bar), and our table wasn’t cleared of spilt food before dessert was served. Waitress was nice, just wasn’t trained. I don’t think they knew much about the wine menu either.

Nice small and cosy place, would be good to sit outside in the summer. Had the oysters which were absolutely divine. Plump, juicy and extremely fresh. The steak was great and the chocolate mousse was a great way to finish off a good night. My only negative would be a little bit too cramped and noisy, but overall very very good.
