Sanxia Renjia Deptford

Came for a friend's birthday meal and we all enjoyed our food. The service, like the decor, was kind of old school where they're dashing over to refill drinks etc. For two mains, a shared starter and a beer each we paid around £40. The whole place feels a bit outdated but the selection of dishes, service and quality of the food are good.

Fantastic...had my birthday dinner here and Moon arranged everything beautifully. Johnny served the food, such a nice, enthusiastic guy. Food superb as usual, highly recommend the beef dry pot and pork chop in tomato sauce. We were also allowed to bring a cake. Thanks Sanxia Deptford team, especially Moon and Johnny.

The food is amazing, trust me. Some of the bad reviews are simply due to the poor service (which hasn’t been my experience honestly). But if you can look past that I promise you’ll find some of the best and most authentic chinese food in London (Jay Rayner from the Guardian reviewed it outstandingly). My favourites are the Mao Braised Pork, Lion’s Head Meatball, twiced cook pork, the aubergine and dan dan noodles. Give it a try!

We ate here mid-afternoon on a sleepy Sunday; as the only customers we had our choice of table as well as attentive service from the friendly waitress. We ordered a pot of jasmine tea while we worked our way through the long, colourful menu - and eventually came up with a list of four dishes to try; Ma Po bean curd with minced pork (the tofu needed the salty pork as it was a touch under seasoned) green peppers with fermented black beans (piping hot, pungent) spicy (a slight understatement) shredded (deep fried) squid (buried within the accompanying mountain of dried red chilies we discovered all manner of tasty treasures, including crunchy Sichuan peppercorns and slivers of ginger) and a cooling salad of slithery black fungus (fragrant with fresh coriander). Of course it turned out we'd ordered way too much - and we came away with leftovers for Monday's breakfast.
