The Market

This is a nice concept but not very inviting to actually walk in. Is it all one restaurant or a bunch of different restaurants? There’s a bunch of bars, can I order food at any of them? Really I guess my question is just where do you even order food in there? And I walked “into” one place and other than a huge crowd around the bar and a bunch of empty tables, I didn’t see anyone. I finally saw someone and asked for a menu which I was given but tried to make contact with an employee several times so I could order but wasn’t successful. I ended up just leaving the menu on the bar and walking away. If I had one and fudge, a cupcake or beer, I would not of had a problem at all, but a burger and fries wasn’t happening.

This was a very nice experience , I will note on the music was a tad bit to loud for my liking. The musician was amazing and very good with his guitar and his singing. The kiddy cocktail I had was different, I did like it. It tasted as if a pineapple and a cherry had a baby it would be this drink. The bar tender was very kind and had a nice story to associate with the drink she was making for me. Now she has a sense of humor that will make you laugh so hard you could fall right out of your seat. Another thing to note is the decor, it was all modern, rustic even. The ocean view was one of my favorite things about this establishment. You can see the navy ships being worked on. You can see many boats passing. I will come back soon because they have a vip club you can join. Free appetizers offered and half off beer on Friday’s. This is a nice place to cool down from the hot weather outside. Also outside of The Market is a nice arcade that I passed by that could make a nice family experience. This arcade is connected to The Market so no worries about the humidity getting in the way of some quality family time.

Bartenders were extremely rude. This was our first time here, and we recently moved to Norfolk. Would not recommend this to our friends. We were completely ignored for 20 minutes and accused of trying to get drinks for underage people. Each person in our group was at the least 24. We were given attitude when trying to order drinks as well. Would not recommend.

I put in an order through Grubhub. The order was accepted, but then it was cancelled after 30 mins. All of a sudden, it was listed as closed on Grubhub. I checked its hour on Google and it was open. I called them and left a message, never received a response. I was disappointed with the way they operated.

This was my first trip there and I probably won't return anytime soon. I just could not shake the feeling of eating in an alley with the decor of brick, plankboards and and bare concrete. The cashier behind The Local counter was so busy texting and working her phone, she did not lookup and notice customers standing there waiting to order. Some just left and went to other counters. The bartenders in the middle of the market are just as busy talking to customers already served so they were slow to get to new ones walking up and waiting. The Vin wine bar hosts were courteous and served us quickly. Their assortment of wines they carried were from around the globe and quite good. The Fudgery is an active production ensemble of technicians producing and making all kinds of fudge treats. We tried the newly made and sliced fudge which was very good.
