Gibson's On Queen

Imagine going into a restaurant preparing to find something to criticize but instead walking out satisfied. I went to Gibson’s for lunch with some co-workers and I was not expecting much at all. (These overrated downtown restaurants are really missing the mark for me). I ordered the Montreal style smoked meat sandwich and fries. The meat was moist and piled generously on a fresh, soft bun. The fries were thick cut, not overly salty , and they tasted like they just cut the potatoes and fried them the moment I ordered it. There was also a side of tasty coleslaw as a bonus. Could it be a fluke? All my companions enjoyed their meals. I heard high praise for their salads (Which looked delicious) and their chicken sandwiches. I guess it was no fluke after all. Just a little bit pricey but it is comparable to other restaurants in the area. Server was Joelle. She was quick and managed the table well. It could have been five stars if they weren’t quite so stingy on that coleslaw!

This place has the most amazing breakfast!! Got the Eggs Benedict, comes with delicious fruit & homefries as a side, everything was perfect. My boyfriend had the homemade hot sauce, said it was phenomenal (they also sell it for $10). They also offered us more tea & coffee in a to-go cup free of charge. Would recommend this to everyone!

Our group went here twice while we were on a business conference in town and staying at the hotel. Once a party of 7 and once a party of 5. Both times, the host who was a man seemed very annoyed by the number of people we had. He kept asking if we had any more coming and reiterating how hard it was to fit us all in. So first impression sucked. That is the only reason doe the 3 stars. Otherwise, the food was awesome. Great variety and both times was ample portions and very well done. Really enjoyed the Thai Curry bowl and would come back just for that. Also had the queen street chicken sandwich which was great. The waitresses were friendly and helpful. Overall a great place, but that first impression made us wonder both times if we were really welcome.
