Palais Imperial

Only for a start because of the older waiter. He was very sweet and fast working. But the food was... not good. We were excited to get the crowd wonton, but received 12 pieces of fried wonton wraps work less than ¼tsp of meat somehow folded into each of them. The general tao had a very concentrated, very gelatinous dark brown sauce, and had a fishy peppery taste to it. Add of they fried it in the same oil they fried old seafood in. The sauce was jello-like, too sweet and too salty at the same time. We were really trying to force it down. Chicken fried noodles wasn't all that bad, the sauce was on the salty side, but tolerable with lots of water. Carrots were underdone, most "Chinese brocoli" were just stems. And A LOT of Chinese broccoli stems.

Royal Thai is a nice restaurant. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. If you're looking for good Asian food in Byward Market, definitely try out Royal Thai! They will stop accepting people when it's half an hour to closing though so you'll have to arrive earlier. I have had their pad see ew and crab fried rice and really enjoyed it. They also give fortune cookies at the end of your meal.
