Taipei Restaurant

My wife and I tried Taipei for the first time last night. Great restaurant, and everything I heard about it turned out to be true. Even some of the bad things. First things first. The food is really good. Quality dishes and they are all at a fair price. 2nd thing. The owner Mrs Lynn is a little weird but everyones weird in their own ways. She does ask a lot of questions and sometimes in a weird way, but I wasn't bothered by that at all. Overall, A very good restaurant and probably will return in the future.

I guess some people like Taipei but I didn't. Chicken was way too salty. Felt bad throwing my plate away but I couldn't eat it. Miss Lin also was very VERY strange. More than just a little strange as other reviewers said. She asks some really weird questions and her mannerisms are weird too. One of her questions to me was why I had my mother with me, instead of my girlfriend or wife. Then she said most people don't take their mother out with them. At 63 and my mother being 91, I am very lucky to have her. I love taking her places and I don't have to go everywhere with my wife. It was just really weird and i don't understand why it even mattered to Miss Lin. It was very uncomfortable. I am definitely NOT coming back.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in the Roanoke area. Don't be fooled by the modest exterior, this is a very well-run establishment with fresh, excellent food. The owner Lin treats every customer like family... this is one of those rare places that you will want to return to again and again. Definitely worth a try.

Taipei Restaurant is somewhat of a "local legend" in Roanoke, Va for Chinese food. The restaurant has been around for a very long time and underwent name changes in the past. The food is pretty good and the service is generally pretty good. The owner Lin can be very friendly however she is quite the gossip, so most people know not to listen to anything she says. I wouldn't recommend them as a 1st choice, though I may recommend them as a 2nd or 3rd choice. I am a beef kind of guy and I always enjoyed Taipei's beef w/garlic sauce. Someone told me recently this place is closing soon and Lin is retiring so get it while you can. This place will be sorely missed by some.

The food was decent but the owner is rude. Mrs. Lin needs to be more friendlier and better to all her customers. Not just a few. This woman judged me and treated me like a teenager. She also asked me if i was lying about owning my own photography business because she thought i looked too young. Just rude. I cant stand these types of judgemental people.

I love this place, food and staff. Very reasonable prices for food cooked to order. I eat there very frequently and have never had a bad meal. I always take my friends from out of town there to eat. They all talk bout it and can't wait to go back. I see one review that said the staff was rude. I think he/she ate somewhere else. You will enjoy your visit. I'll promise that!

Don't get me wrong with my rating because the food was amazing but the customer service that Miss Lynn gives now is so poor. She is very rude and disrespectful to customers. Never seen her act like that when i was younger and my family came in she was always happy. If you want good food go here but don't expect good customer service.

Stopped by here 2 times. Won't be back. As other reviewers said, the lady "miss lynn" is disrespectful. rude. I came by the first time and chatted with her a little bit while getting a to-go order. She was lovely and delightful on the first meeting. 2nd visit she asked me why I came alone. I was put off by that but answered her question anyway. She said people shouldn't go places alone and then asked me why I was alone again. Even though I already answered her question. Strange lady. She can be nice but shes strange. The food was good but good service goes a long way. After the way she asked me those questions I was just completely turned off to her restaurant. I don't think this lady realizes how she comes off to people. if she did she wouldn't ask questions and make things so uncomfortable. I actually felt insulted when I left. But she would never have been able to pick up on those feelings. I thought it was just me at first then I discovered other people said they had similar exchanges with this lady. Anyway, I suggest going to another restaurant. You can find food just as good at other restaurants in Roanoke and in the surrounding areas.
