I'm embarrassed to say that I booked an appointment for the Rapids ID card at the NOAA for my spouse who had an expired card. We took our two kids with us due to lack of childcare and they would not let us in the building with our kids. NOT a family centric facility. Failure as a federal facility. Would not recommend using their ID card office.

Important science, but super-annoying grounds crew use two-stroke engine leafblowers to polish the parking lot. Racket ruins the quiet in Magnuson park in the mornings. Not to mention the pointless greenhouse gas emissions. Ocean acidification, anybody?

The public is not permitted in the buildings, so think of this as a park. The shoreline is extremely worthwhile. On weekdays except holidays, from 11:30 till 1:30, you can walk through a guarded gate to NOAA land from Magnuson Park's neighboring offleash area. (You will be asked for ID at this gate, presumably because it's federal land.) During business hours, NOAA is a lengthy but pleasant bus ride from downtown.

Always kind and courteous. As I wander around there, I meet some employees. I am 71 yrs old. I am so amazed at what they are working on. I live up the hill, I wish they would brief us on what they are doing there. Plus what a resource for our kids. "A prophet is without honor in his own land or neighborhood .

Well me and my family were meeting up here for lunch and this dude was constantly gone from the gate. It took us literally 30 mins. for him to get back to his assigned post. Would not recommend.
