Lechon Republic Singapore

Really tasty grilled pork, we were recommended the half kilo to be shared among 3. It was our first time trying lechon and we found the skin crispy, meat juicy with a hint of spice. There are slight remnant porky flavours but they are balanced out by the pickles. We also tried the mango salad, and a bottle of San Miguel. Overall an enjoyable first experience, thanks to the staff for the warm treatment!

You know that food is good when you're the foreigner in your own country. The lechon is roasted fresh everyday and it's sweet and savoury with fats that melt in your mouth and skin that crackles in your ears. It was quite a difficult place to reach, nestled near the end of a shoplot. Overheard the store manager's conversation with a customer that they roast the whole pig in the store. Apparently in the room behind, although I did not take a peek with them hah! The skin on the pork itself is super crunchy, just looking at it you would be able to feel the crunch. Obviously though, this is a high fat dish and it IS OILY. Duh. I find myself shovelling rice and meat into my face hole and just mashing everything up because the the savoury taste with the sauces cut the brakes on my hunger impulses. Whilst I do like the dish, I don't foresee myself coming back again unless there is a specific occasion where I would need maybe a whole side of roasted pig. Plus, my arteries will thank me for this.

The Chopped Lechon was quite tasty and the skin was very crispy. The Ensaladang Talong and Sinigang na Hipon were OK. The food here (especially for the lechon) were a little too expensive for a canteen setting. I think there was even GST charges. Seats were really uncomfortable with very little room under the table for the legs. Staff were not rude but look like they would rather be at somewhere else.
