Kurama Robatayaki

Had lunch here earlier. I'm giving 3 stars mainly for the great service. Unfortunately, I wasn't too happy with the food. I read someone else mentioned about the rice used which was hard and not sticky as Japanese rice should be. I ordered the $78 sushi lunch set which I thought was a rip-off as the portions were just too small. I appreciate that the nigiri sushi were smaller and "bite-sized" hence easier to eat but I was just left not satisfied. To add, the miso soup was bland and tasteless, comparable to the packet-type miso soups sold at supermarkets. I would be hard pressed to return given how overpriced the dishes were.

This is a fun and casual bar/restaurant. The entrance is kited out as a street style sake bar, it’s meant to have a ‘streets of Tokyo feel’ but although it doesn’t quite pull it off it’s still casual and fun. Inside is a more cosy Robatayaki restaurant where you can interact with chefs and have more of an engaging dining experience. The food itself was quite delicious. We mainly had small meat dishes and a few Yakitori sticks. My favourite dish was the chicken karage, unlike other places the chicken pieces weren’t huge, so the chicken batter was crunchy all over and the meat still pretty tender and juicy inside. The wagyu tongue was a little small, portion-wise, but it was tasty. The garlic fried rice was a little too refined for our liking as it was trying to be fine dining and only had a sprinkling of garlic on it, whereas we enjoy a garlic fried rice to taste of garlic. The onsen salad was actually delicious and we enjoyed the sauce right up to the last spoon. Overall this is a decent place, with good service and pretty good food, but for the price you pay, the portions are a little small and you expect to get a bit more then you end up with.

Food was pretty good but the serving size was downright disappointing. Level of service depended on how much you ordered in my opinion, we had the Tsukune rice bowl and the Spicy Salmon rice bowl during their lunch promotion, which was what enticed us to enter and try but once we completed our order, the expression of the host's face was that he wasn't impressed with our orders. meh. if you're particular about "value for money" or "portions size" then avoid for disappointment.

Well decorated place which is quite a deception. Ordered an A4 steak gyu don and was proudly recommended with A5 wagyu. Lucky I stayed with A4 coz I was served with uncooked rice. Always have high regards with Japanese rice, but their rice was just out of this world horrible! Waiter tried to convince me otherwise. My reply: “hawker rice got more standard than you conmans”.
