Watertown Family Restaurant

Watertown Family Restaurant was a relaxing dining experience in an atmosphere that carried the whispers of past eras in the air! My husband and I were out "intrepid exploring" one weekend and came across this family restaurant! The food was filling and flavorful - reminiscent of home! My husband had one of his childhood favorites - country fried steak with cottage fries and side salad. I tried something a bit more "now" - a Hawaiian pita sandwich with chicken breast, pineapple and swiss cheese, chicken and dumpling soup and a side salad. The young woman who was our server had a ready smile, knew her menu and was conscientious of her guests. I would recommend Watertown Family Restaurant to anyone looking for a family-friendly spot that is only a couple blocks from the main street. It is a treasure worth looking into!

After reading the reviews, we decided to give it a try. Wasn't impressed. We visited on a Thursday at 7:30pm. They were out of the Broasted Chicken I was looking forward to so I settled for the Steak and shrimp and my significant other got the Corn Beef Cabbage special. I asked the waitress how does the cook make the Steak with a reply however you want it done. I wanted to know if the cook was spot on or known to over or under cook. I was told he under cooks. So going with my gut I ordered it medium rare. I like my steaks med rare to medium. As I knew it came out medium well. Over cooked and lacking flavor. I would guess he steamed it on the griddle with a pan covering it. The mashed potatoes were okay but again lacking flavor. And as for the shrimp, nothing spectacular. The corned beef and cabbage was fine but nothing to write home about. I will definitely give it another try, hopefully a little earlier to see if that makes a difference. 2nd visit: I ordered the Broasted Chicken special. Chicken dumpling soul was good. The waitress was great and the chicken was good as well. Coming in earlier I think made a difference.
