While the food itself was fantastic, I am thoroughly disappointed by the service of your staff.
Last night, there was only one waitress serving us. Although I completely understand the stress one person might have in serving an entire restaurant, I was shocked by our server’s condescending and insulting attitude towards me from the moment I entered the restaurant.
When I stepped in, I wanted to sit at a table in the shade, and the only such table remaining happened to be uncleaned. As I prepared to sit down, the waitress approached me and aggressively remarked that “French people don’t usually sit at tables with trash,” the first of many examples where I felt demeaned simply because I was a foreigner. In shock, I proceeded to move the trash to the empty table beside me, only to have the waitress shout at me while grabbing the items out of my hands. Once again I felt insulted and unwelcome, this time despite trying to do a job which was the server's to do in the first place. To add insult to injury, I remember seeing an untouched but old basket of bread on the table when I first approached. While the bread was seemingly cleared away with the other trash, I was stunned to see the same basket of dry and stale bread brought to my table with the escargot.
In summary, I am making this complaint as I feel that I have been insulted and made to feel unwelcome merely because I sounded foreign to the waitress. I am appalled by this treatment, and it made me leave the restaurant with a bad taste in my mouth despite some excellent food. It is only right that all customers (and especially tourists) are welcomed and treated with respect, as ultimately they are your source of income and visitors to your country.

Our favourite place to eat when we are staying at the aire de camping car in Beaune. Great food, delicious wine and lovely staff. Hope to visit again soon xx

A bientôt j'espère...

I went here over a year ago and I still think about how the food here was amazing. I haven't found beef Bourguignon this good anywhere else. It was also our first time trying escargot and it was so tasty! We weren't sure where to go it was our first time in the city and another couple suggested it. We loved the atmosphere my husband and I sat outside and our server was awesome and also spoke English because my French is really rough!
I wish I lived here I would frequent it every week!

As Michelin diners - we enjoyed 3 - yes three meals here when we wanted bistro style dining. The Salade Nicoise is one the two best in central Beaune. The Fish & Chips are a good sized portion of fish, lightly fried, & perfectly prepared. Avoid sharing food or splitting plates as it is considered rude in France. Two of our 5 diners did so on the first course and we waited an inordinate amount of time for our food (second visit).

It's A-OK. Not great, not bad. Great location, friendly service. They have something for everyone - I had steak, the vegetarian in the group had Pizza. Wine list was so-so. This is a great tourist spot as it's centrally located. They were open when many other restaurants were not.

Nice looking place with great ambiance and a terrific efficient server. Great wine selection including by the glass
Salad was fresh. Fish and chips ; good chips but the fish was frozen kind that was very over coated with batter.

Stopped by Le Carnot for lunch while in Beaune. This was one of those places where I should have thought twice. They rate 3.5 stars but are definitely closer to 3. Fish and chips were average at best. Service was ok. Next time in Beaune I'll look for another lunch spot.

Everyone in my group had a more exciting meal than me....chicken livers was the choice of one person who said they were divine, someone else got the escargot who was in snail heaven, and the other ordered the poached eggs in the burgundy sauce and he was savoring every drop. I ordered a salad to try to make up for the meals I ate the day before. It was lack lustre. Our wine was great as well as the service and atmosphere of the place. I would go back for sure.

Wonderful outdoor seating at the juncture of 5 walking pathways. Thus unlike most outdoor seating you don't have to endure exhaust fumes while dining. Had the price fix meal mid day. Escargot were delicious! Beef Bourgogne was quite good. 3 cheeses with nuts, jam and more bread. Could hardly stuff down the creme brûlée, but I did manage as it was so tasty! A little wine and my eating for the day is done. Thank goodness for all the walking we do on trips. Service is leisurely.

Le Carnot is great! We went a couple times because it was so convenient, easy, and the staff was very kind and welcoming. It's a great location in town and there are many different types of meal options.

Tres bien dinner. I had the duck which was amazing. I would go back and have it again. My husband had the fish and chips. My son had the chicken nuggets from the children's menu.
Nice decor inside. Lovely place to eat outside.
We had a bottle of white from Nuit Saint George. We liked it. The waiter was surprised when I said it was good which I wish he had said when we ordered it.

Perhaps the best meal I had in France. The service was also amazing. Our servers were both young, good looking and attentive Frenchmen. I ordered a set menu that was only 32 euros! Each course had a few options and I had:
***6 escargot with parsley butter - if you had not tried this then you must order it!
***beef Bourgogne with potatoes (wine sauce)
***3 cheese and jam platter, comes with additional bread
***dijonaise cup (vanilla ice cream, cassis sorbet, cassis sauce, and cookie)
My boyfriend ordered:
***Iberian pork with horseradish sauce a la plancha (grilled on a wooden plank) with potatoes
***summer omelet with peppers and chorizo, with salad
For wine, we ordered 12cL or 25 cL local wines but bottles are also offered. In burgundy, whites are typically Chardonnays whole reds are typically Pinot Noirs.
***burgundy rose
***white meursault
***red marsannay
***red Gevrey-chambertin was our favorite!

Very nice atmosphere, food was nicely presented and was pretty good! Salmon with dill needed more acidity in my opinion but the lasagna was great!

One of the few places open in Beaune on a Monday night. Boeuf bourguignon was OK but underseasoned...frankly, I make a better beef stew with red wine and I'm an uncouth American. :)
Their creme brulee was quite good. Set your expectations appropriately.
Richard H.
Great location with lots of passers by but food quality was varied. Service was slow / labored and had to be prompted on several occasions.
Dish of the day - pork with mashed potato - was tasty but a small serving. The tagliatelle carbonara with ham and cheese sauce was excellent with an American sized serving.
Kevin L.
Fantastic classic Burgundy fare with great service.
We had cancelled most reservations while we were there and opted to cook in and relax. I wanted to go somewhere for lunch where we could sample some of the better food of the region from poached eggs, escargot, and beef borg. I'm glad we stopped there. Fantastic food! We ordered 50cl of wine and made an afternoon of it!
This was the first time I have had escargot and now I feel as though I've been missing out for the past thirty years.
Definitely recommended!

Service completely unacceptable- we had a nice experience at lunch so we thought we'd go back for dinner. big mistake. Waitress clearly has a thing against either tourists or English speaking tourists. We were sat, but did not get menus- after waiting a few minutes and watching her go by us without acknowledging our presence, we walked over to the bar to get menus ourselves. Watched her go by a few more times before receiving any offer to take an order... and then waited forever for the food to come. The fluent French speakers in her section that were sat AFTER US received menus upon being sat, received their food a good 20 minutes BEFORE US and were offered a second round of drinks. The people from England sitting next to us? They were left hanging like us. Coincidence? unlikely.
Amy R.
Good location, and we were able to get lunch on a Saturday without reservation. Service was a bit uneven, and sometimes verging on rude to other tables (particularly one waiter who seemed frustrated with English speakers). Staff seemed really rushed and overwhelmed. We had pizzas (crust not browned, thick gooey, lots of sauce), fries (tasty and homemade), and a really nice salad with melted Camembert and potatoes in it. If you're looking for a sit-down cafe experience with good people-watching, get a seat at Carnot. On the other hand, if good taste/quality is more important, I recommend the place next door.

Although the location of this Brasserie was perfectly cute and the decor was great, the food was bad. We ordered the oeufs de marinette (poached eggs in sauce) and the French onion soup. The French onion soup was so bad, it was watery liquid with a side of shredded cheese and croutons. It wasn't a classic French onion soup at all! For 11 euros it was appalling. The egg dish wasn't much better. I'd recommend only coming here for a coffee not for the food.
Travis M.
Quite good although kid's pizza wasn't their favorite. Parents were happy as had some great escargot apps and the beef bourguignon was fantastic. Nice outdoor seating and pleasant service
Kim B.
Good bistro with nice service and view of a cute street and charming church. Beautiful interior too. The waiter was very kind and patient with our bad French. Had the cheese platter and drinks. Excellent.

We visited for lunch and were pleased with the friendly service and reasonable prices. Our waiter was great, spoke excellent English, and the location on the pedestrian walkway was quiet with great people watching. The pizza looked great but I decided to try a local dish of tripe in a mustard sauce. The sauce was great but tripe is definately an acquired taste!
