Wonderful food and extremely friendly staff! I ordered the couscous with fish and one of the four waiters helping me showed me exactly how to eat it. The flavor was great and the fish was cooked perfectly! I asked for a zalabia for dessert (it is my favorite), which made the older gentleman helping me very happy, but much to our dismay they were out! I tried a rolled baklava and mint tea instead which were very good. Then when I was paying the older gentleman brought me a fresh zalabia that he had the kitchen make! It was so sweet! It felt like I was at a family member's house. The restaurant was packed and it seemed the staff knew almost everyone who came through the door. Just FYI, very little English is spoken at the restaurant (and my French is pretty bad), the one younger waiter explained everything to me, which was very nice of him. I was dining by myself and the older gentleman sat with me even though we had a language barrier. I highly recommend this restaurant! Merci beaucoup!

Our favorite restaurant in Marseille, where we have lived for the past 4 months. Great food, affordable prices, super nice wait staff (who I say look like Casey Affleck and a young, handsomer James Woods). We will be sad to return to the USA because of places like this. But we'll be back!

Stumbled upon this friendly and inviting Mediterranean family restaurant while in Marseille. Absolutely favorite place we have eaten in the last 5 nights in France. Our group does not speak French well and our waitress only knew a few words in English but she made every attempt to explain the meals. The food was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. I had the nightly special with a large bottle of sparkling water for 10 euros. They were very accommodating and welcoming to our party of 7.

Another Tunisian restaurant, another jewel in the middle of Marseille. You get your money's worth. You can order couscous with different types of meat and you also get a bowl of broth with veggies and chick peas. You sorta mix all or eat them separately. Meal is accompanied with water, a hot dip (sauce) and bread. Staff is extremely friendly. Without knowing a single word of French or Arabic, you can communicate just fine. Do not miss the experience of eating in this restaurant!

After doing some research on Yelp prior to visiting Marseille, I bookmarked Sur le Pouce as an inexpensive option for a good meal in a non-tourist area away from the Vieux Port. We stopped in for lunch today before heading to the airport. It's definitely a hole in the wall. Hospitality though was excellent! We were given fresh baked bread with a spicy red sauce (similar to Harrisa) to start. The gentleman serving was eager to take our order so without thinking too much about it, my husband ordered the lamb coucous on his recommendation and I ordered the chicken tangine. My husband loved his meal! He received a full plate of couscous, a large lamb shank on the side, and a soup broth-which was spiced and perfect for dipping bread in-with vegetables. The lamb was very tender and flavorful. The chicken tangine was delicious as well. The chicken was bone-in so there were times I had to pull them out of my mouth. The meat, however, was tender and seasoned well. The seasoned rice, peas, and potatoes/onion mix served on the side were all tasty, although I would have liked more spice. This was by far our cheapest meal in Marseille clocking in at 19 euros. I do have to dock a star for the bathroom - no soap and no toilet paper. Luckily I caught both of those things before actually using it. Other than that, I'd highly recommend a visit here to experience a less touristy and more authentic meal in Marseille!

My friends and I stopped here for late dinner because of delayed train. The server was friendly, and recommended couscous. It was heavenly. The chicken was soft and delicious. The chickpea stew was awesome. It was probably the best dinner for a cold January night.

Amazing couscous, and one of the cheapest in the city. Open late, and always busy.

Delcious, affordable, and fast service; the couscous dishes were so flavorful and filling! It is not in a touristy area, but close enough to it that you can easily walk to the restaurant from the Vieux Port or MuCEM area. The interior of place is no frills, which makes it feel real and authentic. The food is good quality and service is quick. Highly recommended!

The couscous is simply Amazing! It is the same taste as the couscous you will find in tunisia. And it is also cheap, don't miss this place! Coffee is one euro, tea as well. Basic couscous 5 euros and big portions

It's not quite 5 euros anymore as the other reviewers say, but it is pretty darn cheap! I think the couscous starts at 6 euros and goes up from there depending on what meat you add. I also had the tagine once at it was around 10 euros, so still quite reasonable for lots of tasty food. Couscous: legume is the basic, which everyone gets, they bring each person a plate of couscous and then big pots of veggies/sauce for the table. Put some veggies/sauce on your couscous and let everyone else have some. Then they'll bring whatever (the Maison comes with sausage, a kebab, and something else). The calamari looked really good. They refill the veggies/sauce pot so don't worry about it, keep eating them. Tagine: is great. I liked it better than the couscous meats. Comes with three or four little dishes of stuff. Yum! They start you with baguettes and harissa, which is a great way to start a meal. Don't forget the delicious mint tea (1 euro) or pine nut tea (2 euros) and/or dessert on your way. Pay at the front, just tell them what you ordered. Bring cash it is easier.
